FAQ
What is the Biodiversity Collage?
The Biodiversity Collage is a fun and collaborative workshop! It empowers participants by helping them to understand the importance of biodiversity and its business implications. It is also a valuable resource for leadership/ESG teams looking to optimise their sustainability strategies.
What are the threats to biodiversity?
Biodiversity faces numerous threats: –
- urbanisation and infrastructure development
- industrial expansion, fuelled by global supply chains
- pollution from carbon emissions and chemical spills
- climate change itself disrupts ecosystems with extreme and unseasonal weather events
- overexploitation of natural resources, from human activities like deforestation, overfishing and global supply chains
- invasive species outcompeting natives, diseases and parasites – all of which are exacerbated by human activity
Collectively, these threats not only exacerbate the effects of climate change but also threaten our access to food, clean air and water. They therefore pose a greater existential threat than climate change itself.
What are some interesting biodiversity facts?
- The planet possesses an estimated 8.7 million species
- Half of all plant and animal species find their habitats in rainforests
- Human activities have dramatically accelerated biodiversity loss, causing species extinction rates to soar up to 1,000 times above natural rates
