Early Education and Career Aspirations
International Studies and Diverse Educational Background
Have you watched the new Netflix documentary ‘Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy’?
Twenty years ago, in 2004, I proudly graduated with a Master in International Management in France. Prior to that, I studied business for four years at an international Business School in Normandy. During this time, I was fortunate to study at Pontypridd University in the UK and at ETEA in Cordoba, Spain.
Throughout my curriculum, everything was designed to make us feel we were the future of business leaders, destined for great careers filled with social status and financial success.
Initial Career Choices and Realizations
However, upon graduating, I harbored strong doubts that learning sales, marketing, merchandising, and similar disciplines would enable us to become more virtuous humans and consume consciously. My saying at the time was, “I don’t want to sell toothpaste to sheep.”
This conviction led me to avoid working in FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) sectors. I felt that the skills I acquired did not align with my desire to make a positive impact, leaving me confused about my career path.

Challenges in the Corporate World
Struggles with Sales-Oriented Roles
With a background in sales and marketing, my options seemed limited. My first job was as a financial advisor in a bank, followed by a role at a recruitment agency, hoping for a more human-centered position. Instead, I was met with one of the most sales-driven environments possible.
Seeking Purpose Beyond Profit
For years, I worked for companies that failed to provide me with a sense of purpose or real value. The pressure of sales roles was overwhelming, leading to constant second thoughts and an inability to manage the stress.
The Turning Point
Discovering the Training Space
I was fortunate that, while burnt out as a recruiter, my manager suggested an opportunity to transition into the training space. This shift proved to be an epiphany. I realized that training was what I enjoyed and excelled at, particularly in helping salespeople improve their skills and processes.
Realizing the True Calling
In this new role, my focus was on training individuals to become more efficient and effective in their sales roles. However, the underlying purpose still revolved around increasing sales, which didn’t fully satisfy my desire for meaningful work.
Embracing Sustainability
The Decision to Transition
Originally from Brittany in France, I grew up close to the ocean with parents from the countryside. My upbringing instilled in me a deep connection with nature, enjoying summers at the beach and on my grandparents’ farms.
Despite working in major cities like Paris, London, and Sydney, I was acutely aware of the environmental degradation, increasing pollution, and resource extraction driven by consumerism. The rise of individualism and the fleeting nature of happiness derived from material possessions weighed heavily on me.

Founding DecarbonEaser
During the pandemic, I turned 40 and engaged in numerous conversations with friends about these concerns. The recurring theme was a sense of helplessness—”We can’t change the system!”
With two children, ages 14 and 7, I often pondered how I would respond if they asked, “What did you do, Dad, when you knew what was happening?”
Four years ago, as a Salesforce trainer, I decided to upskill myself on Marketing Cloud, a recent Salesforce acquisition. Despite finding the software fascinating, I couldn’t reconcile training others to use it effectively with my desire to contribute positively to the environment. This internal conflict led me to quit my job and pursue a ‘Climate job.’
After months of learning, researching, and connecting with like-minded individuals, I met a dedicated woman who shared my belief that life isn’t solely about business profit. As Eric Liedtke stated in the documentary, ‘You can only hide from your complacency for so long.’ Adults are responsible for their actions, or at least they should be.
In April 2023, shortly after relocating from Australia to the UK and going through the Cambridge certificate in sustainability leadership, I founded DecarbonEaser. My company is a training business dedicated to environmental awareness and engagement. While challenging—starting a business in a new country with no network or entrepreneurial experience—it has been immensely fulfilling. Top 10 Tips to Deliver an Impactful Sustainability Workshop has guided me in building a purposeful enterprise.
Building a Purpose-Driven Business
Overcoming Initial Challenges
Starting DecarbonEaser was tough. I ventured into a new market with limited connections, but the sense of purpose kept me motivated. I had to wear my sales hat again, but this time, I was selling something for the greater good—protecting nature, connecting people, and understanding our complex systems.
Finding Fulfillment and Purpose
Since founding DecarbonEaser, I have never worked harder, not even during my recruitment days. My wife observed my career shifts with skepticism, thinking I was lazy and couldn’t maintain a job. Now, I understand the fulfillment that comes from knowing I’m making a positive impact. Our Sustainable Successes are a testament to the meaningful work we’re accomplishing.
Most importantly, I can look in the mirror with peace, knowing I’m setting a positive example for my children. I found my purpose amidst numerous battles and noble causes, contributing to a sense of community that is truly uplifting.

Looking Ahead
Mission for Community and Environmental Impact
One of my missions is to drive social tipping points by recruiting more individuals to join the sustainability movement. To anyone contemplating their own situation, I say: Decoding Climate Change Skepticism—take the leap. Once you make the move, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
Inspiring Others to Join the Journey
Over the last 25 years, I never had specific ambitions tied to societal standards of success. Now, I possess a humble yet profound ambition to create change, bring people along on the journey, and make a tangible impact.
Building resilience and robustness is essential, as the journey is filled with both amazing and challenging days. However, I wouldn’t trade this path for anything else.
Conclusion: A Journey Not a Destination
We all have a role to play, regardless of our position in society or business. It’s about having the courage to envision the future we want and taking steps towards it. DecarbonEaser embodies this journey—educating, connecting, and inspiring action for a sustainable future.
Join me on this journey to create a better, more sustainable world.
