ABOUT SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC
Schneider Electric is a global leader in energy management and automation, operating in over 100 countries and serving customers across homes, buildings, data centres, infrastructure and industry.
A company already fluent in collaborative learning
Schneider Electric has long understood that organisational transformation starts with shared understanding. Having already embedded the immersive workshops Climate Fresk and the Circular Economy Collage across their global workforce, they were ready to take the next step: building genuine biodiversity literacy at scale not just as education, but as a springboard for local action.
The Challenge
Biodiversity sits at the frontier of corporate sustainability strategy. Unlike climate, where frameworks and metrics are increasingly established, nature and biodiversity risk requires a different kind of fluency: systemic, local, and deeply interconnected. Schneider Electric needed to equip a network of biodiversity champions spread across their global regions: people who, for the most part, had volunteered or been asked to take on this responsibility alongside their existing roles. The stakes were high as these individuals needed enough systemic understanding of biodiversity to take confident local actions and bring others with them. And they needed to be able to do that at scale, independently, without relying on external support for every session.

HOW THE RELATIONSHIP BEGAN
Jim met Maeve Hall, Global Lead for Nature at Schneider Electric, at an industry event.
She was looking for ways to engage her global network of biodiversity champions, and Schneider already knew the Climate Fresk from earlier rollouts.
She recognised the model immediately so we organised a number of Biodiversity Collage workshops first to identify who would be best placed to deliver them moving forward before training key champions to carry them into their own regions.
That was the shape of the programme from the outset. Not a series of workshops delivered to Schneider, but a capability built inside it.
WHAT WE DELIVERED

Six regional workshops worldwide
DecarbonEaser delivered the Biodiversity Collage across all six of Schneider Electric’s global regions, reaching about 120 participants drawn from a cross-functional mix of roles. Each session was designed to build a consistent, shared foundation of biodiversity literacy while leaving space for regional relevance giving participants the systemic understanding they needed to act locally and bring others with them.

Sixteen facilitators trained and certified
Every facilitator trained had first participated in one of the regional workshops, a prerequisite built into the Train-the-Trainer model. Drawn from across the business, these 16 internal facilitators now have the skills and certification to deliver the Biodiversity Collage to teams in their own regions, in their own languages, at their own pace without relying on external delivery.

Local action
fast-tracked
The programme was never just about awareness. By focusing on people who had stepped up to champion biodiversity within their regions, often outside their formal job description, the aim was to accelerate the translation of shared understanding into concrete local initiatives, giving participants not only the knowledge but the confidence and community to act.

Client Voice
“The Biodiversity Collage is a powerful leaning tool, guiding people on their own journey of discovery, a-ha moments and action. Jim is a fantastic facilitator – he was able to make our global biodiversity programme feel more meaningful, more relevant and certainly more do-able.”

SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC
What made this possible
Schneider Electric now has biodiversity literacy woven into their global sustainability culture, not as a standalone initiative, but as a natural extension of the collaborative learning model they have built over five years. With 16 certified internal facilitators across their regions, the capacity to educate, inspire and mobilise teams on nature is now firmly in-house. The Biodiversity Collage is no longer a programme they ran, it is a capability they own.
The strength of that partnership led directly to a second chapter: DecarbonEaser has been selected to support the launch of Schneider Electric’s Adaptation Strategy. We will deliver Adaptation to Climate Change workshops and work with their team to develop a tailored training programme they can run independently, extending the same model of building lasting internal capability into a new strategic priority.
